Penguins Don't Accessorize (But Men Should)

There is nothing more formal that a man can wear than a tuxedo.  As the social season sets off – opening night at the opera, symphony, ballet, formal dances and dinners – it’s high time to focus on formalwear.

Everyone knows how to make a man look like a penguin:  black tux of some sort, white pique wing collar shirt, black studs and cuff links, black bow tie and cummerbund, black silk socks and black patent leather shoes.  Perhaps this type of uniformity is good, especially if the man walks with a waddle!

Formalwear frills are what separate man from penguin.  From shirts to shoes, cufflinks to cummerbunds, bowties to braces, and studs to socks there are considerable choices to confound conformists.

Grooms look gorgeous and timeless in the most classic styles.  His accessory after all is his bride, and a sprig of her corsage as his boutonnière completes the presentation.

Color continues to compel consumers with an ever expanding collection of hues.  Colorful cufflinks are clever and whimsical.  Bowties and coordinating cummerbunds are dashing and splashing with fresh color.  Pocket squares add the perfect pouf of color for the man who prefers fabric to flower.

Investment dressers will take stock of the best vest options offered this season.  Fun fabrics from silk to velvet are sure to advance his appearance.  Paired with a cool complementary cravat, he is sure to enjoy many happy returns on his investment.

Braces are a must for a man in a tux.  Worn with a cummerbund or under a vest, these pliable props keep the pants up.  A pair with personality is sure to perform double duty of form and function.

No formal event is complete without a great set of studs – not virile men—but something those men should sport through the buttonholes of their starched shirts.  Whether onyx or pearls, gold or hammered silver, it’s a testament that the man, not penguin, of the evening has arrived.
